The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

It requires producers to fund the collection, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment. Suppliers, including high street shops and online retailers, must provide consumers with free returns of waste equipment.

Many discarded electrical items can be repaired or recycled, conserving finite resources and minimizing environmental/health risks from landfilling.
Distributors of new Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) help reduce landfill WEEE.
Direct Lighting complies by offering free like-for-like take-back of customers’ WEEE when purchasing new EEE from us. For instance, buying a new Low Energy Fluorescent Bulb allows return of an old one for safe disposal, preventing landfill waste. Returns must occur within 28 days of purchase.
This applies to all website products except Christmas lights, household light fittings, household lamps, and traditional filament bulbs.
Under WEEE Regulations, new electrical goods bear the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol.
